The right of the nurse to detain informal patients in psychiatric hospitals in England and Wales

Abstract

Attitudes of psychiatric hospital staff, particularly nurses, were gathered by means of a questionnaire. The question in issue centred on section 5 of the Mental Health Act, 1983, which empowers certain nurses to restrain patients from leaving the hospital.
