Drugs in wastewater: incomplete removal by treatment plants.

[No authors listed]

Abstract

Treatment plants do not completely remove the drugs present in wastewater. The efficacy of wastewater treatment plants varies, depending on the processes used, but remains low for certain drugs. The presence of drugs in wastewater and their persistence after treatment are yet more good reasons to avoid the overconsumption of drugs and to encourage people to dispose of unused medications through organised take-back programmes.
