[A.J. Balard, the bromium discoverer]

He was graduate pharmacist at the "Ecole de pharmacie de Montpellier" in 1826. At the same time his report about a new element was read to the members of Academy of Sciences in Paris. He has found bromium in the waters from Mediterranean salt-marsh. This discovery was the starting point of a new chemistry. It was indeed the first time that someone demonstrated the existence of chemical elements families.
