The continuum of violence against women: psychological and physical consequences.

    Abstract

This article expands on the author's earlier model for connecting acts of violence against women, ordering these along a continuum of intensity and hurtfulness. The author identifies links underlying elements on the continuum, including social myths and misunderstandings, and reviews literature concerning the psychological and physical consequences of violence. Finally, the author proposes a series of strategies for use in college health practice and suggests that the frequent and varied manifestations of violence against women require integrated, institution-wide responses from campus communities.
