The complexity of humans lies in their proteins, not genes. Although a number of technologies are currently employed to analyze protein complexity, no single proteomics technology is adequate. Varying concentrations and wide dynamic range are among the major challenges in protein analyses. On average, each protein has the ability to exist in more than five different forms in a cell, thus, novel concepts in target discovery that are compliant with this 'isoform world' require development.
