Absorbable subcuticular sutures. How to avoid the childhood ordeal of suture removal.

    Abstract

Suture removal is psychologically traumatic to a child, and in the majority of relatively minor elective operations is a totally unnecessary procedure. Skin repair with subcuticular sutures of absorbable polyglycolic acid (Dexon) is advocated. Techniques of suturing are described. Advantages, potential disadvantages and contraindications are discussed.
