To investigate the chemical constituents of Cichorium intybus.
Constituents were separated by means of solvent extraction and chromatography on silical gel. The structures were established by spectral analysis and chemical evidence.
Seven compounds were isolated from the roots of C. intybus and four of them were identified as alpha-amyrin, taraxerone, baurenyl acetate and beta-sitosterol.
All the four compounds were obtained from the plant for the first time.
