It is evident, based on the description of the projects and on the preliminary reports in this special issue, that this group of studies will help increase understanding about how health communication interventions can be used to promote cancer prevention and control, as well as to reduce the burden of cancer, particularly among those disproportionately affected. The diversity in theoretical approaches and intervention modalities used in these studies also promises to contribute broadly to understanding of the role of communication in health promotion and disease prevention.
