In this regard, the recently established Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, provides interesting perspectives. Its atypical structure and the unique mixture of research topics and model systems give this Max-Planck-Institute the necessary versatility and flexibility for this new phase of biology.
