Recently, the American College of Gastroenterology updated its guidelines for the treatment and diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). These guidelines are based on the most current clinical knowledge in this field and include an evaluation of diagnostic tools as well as therapeutic options. The purpose of these guidelines is to propose methods of approach for the treatment of patients with GERD. Physicians can review the guidelines to help them select a course of treatment that meets the needs of the individual patient.
