    Hand Clin. 1999 May;15(2):193-9, vii.

The management of penetrating trauma to the hand.

    Nathan R.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Harbor/UCLA Medical Center, Carson, USA.

Penetrating gunshot wounds to the hand are becoming more common with the increase of gang violence and the availability of firearms. Hand surgeons treating victims of gunshot wounds must be familiar with the peculiarities of the penetrating missile, the special structural considerations of the hand, and the unique demands and rehabilitation needs of this difficult patient population. This article discusses penetrating trauma to the hand and includes a review of ballistics.
