Herpes Simplex Virus Infections in Adolescents.

    Frenkel LM.

Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Washington School of Medicine, Children's Hospital and Medical Center, Seattle, Washington, USA.

The intensity of herpes simplex virus in adolescents can range from trivial to life-threatening and, because therapy should begin early, a high index of suspicion is required. Various forms of HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections addressed here includes gingivostomatitis, anogenital infection, herpetic whitlow, eye infections, encephalitis, and infection in the immunocompromised host.
