The NCBI Map Viewer presents two genetic maps, (SM4.7) and (CAB), for Ovis aries.
The SM4.7 (SheepMap4.7) comprehensive linkage map has
been provided by Dr. Jill Maddox (Department of Veterinary Science,
University of Melbourne, Australia). The SM4.7 map was produced in December 2006 and represents an expansion of the SM3 map described in Maddox et al., 2001.
The Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) map (CAB), is a genetic map kindly provided by Dr. John Keele.
The CAB map was initially described in
de Gortari et al., 1998. The CAB map comprises over 500 markers and spans ~3063 cM.
Each of the markers in these maps have been integrated into NCBI's UniSTS resource which provides regular updates of positioning of these markers on sequences available in DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank.
It is thus possible to navigate from these markers to information in Gene, GenBank, RefSeq, HomoloGene and UniGene.
Please note that alignments of ovine transcripts and UniGene clusters to the bovine genome can be viewed in Map Viewer (e.g. bovine chromosome 4). Other genomes can also be viewed in the NCBI Map Viewer resource. The Map Viewer Home Page provides a current list. Consider also reviewing the resources listed on the Genomic Biology site.
