The Aspergillus fumigatus genome sequence, assembly, and annotation displayed in Map Viewer (build 2.1) is based on the A. fumigatus strain Af293 genome provided by The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) and the Sanger Institute. TIGR and the Sanger Institute sequenced the A. fumigatus genome at 10.5X coverage using whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequencing. The draft genome underwent finishing, and the finished genome was annotated by TIGR.

The A. fumigatus genome is estimated to be 30 Mb, organized in eight chromosomes.

The NCBI Map Viewer provides graphical displays of features on the A. fumigatus genome sequence assembly. Map features that can be seen along the sequence include NCBI contigs, genes, RefSeq transcripts, and GenBank genomic sequences. You can find features of interest by submitting a query against the whole genome or against one chromosome at a time. Results are indicated both graphically, as tick marks on the ideogram, and in a tabular format. The results table includes links to a chromosome graphical view, where the feature can be seen in the context of additional data. You can also browse a chromosome by clicking on a chromosome link in the ideogram above. Use the "Maps & Options" window, available on individual chromosome displays, to configure your display. Extensive documentation and tutorials are provided to describe the resource.

The filamentous fungus A. fumigatus causes more infections worldwide than any other mold. It is an opportunisitic pathogen that can cause aspergillosis, allergic bronchopulmonary and sinus infections, and keratitis in immunocompromised individuals.
