The New LinkOut Library Submission Utility

The LinkOut Library Submission Utility has been changed to a new version in April 4, 2008.  The new Utility offers a friendly user interface which will enhance user experience and enable users to have more control over the management of their accounts.  It improves navigation within and between functions and introduces a faster way to find journal titles/providers, state different subscription types and select a preferred provider.

In addition to LinkOut, the new Submission Utility will also be used to manage Outside Tool and Document Delivery accounts for libraries.

What’s new?

1. Automated password resend

Users can request their account password to be sent to the email addresses registered with NCBI by providing their User Name.

2. Safer login

Users can sign out of their Submission Utility account, without closing their web browsers.  Users will be signed out automatically after eight hours of inactivity.

3. Easy Navigation

A tab format assists with navigation between services and functions.

4. Specific contacts for each service

Libraries can assign different contact persons for LinkOut, Outside Tool and the Document Delivery Service.

5. LinkOut: journal titles grouped in alphabetical ranges for easy selection

Users can select the appropriate journal title range easily.

6. LinkOut: set a preferred provider for a journal title

When multiple providers are selected for a journal title, users can indicate which provider they prefer their library links to point to.

7. LinkOut: export holdings to a CSV or text file

Data can be sorted by journal title/ISSN or provider. Through the “Search PubMed for Library Holdings” button users can see all their holdings directly in PubMed with their LinkOut icon activated.

8. Outside Tool: users manage BaseURL, Help Page URL, Label and Icon

9. Document Delivery Service: users manage Base URL, Help Page URL, Label, and Icon
