Sequence, assembly, annotation and analysis generated by the Bovine Genome Sequencing and Analysis Consortium has culminated in the release of the official publication for the bovine genome, now available in the journal Science. Additional links to Science, journals containing companion papers and other genome publications, and related resources are listed at our special Genome Publication and Press Portal, so be sure to visit.

Tips on Finding cDNA Clones
NCBI offers hints on searching for clones from the NIH Mammalian Gene Collection (MGC) including clones for human, mouse, rat and bovine genes.

Bovine Genome Updated
In October 2007, the Bovine Genome Sequencing Project, led by the Baylor College of Medicine's Human Genome Sequencing Center, released the fourth version of the bovine genome assembly, Btau_4.0, which is a 7.15X mixed assembly that combines whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequence with BAC sequence. The sequence is available in GenBank, EMBL, and DDBJ, and by BLAST.

Steven Salzberg and colleagues at the University of Maryland have published their assembly of the Bos taurus genome in BioMed Central Genome Biology.

A whole-genome assembly of the domestic cow, Bos taurus [abstract] | pdf [PDF]

The assembly is available in GenBank with the accession DAAA00000000; it is also available at the University of Maryland by ftp
.

The bovine genome assembly (Btau_4.0) is available in Map Viewer. Take a moment to BLAST your favorite gene sequence against the genome and explore the maps available for viewing. Learn more about the Gnomon gene prediction program and the resulting models available in Map Viewer.
