German Human cDNA Project

OVERVIEW

A consortium of eight experienced DNA sequencing laboratories and one of Germany's prominent bioinformatics institutes (MIPS) was founded in September 1997 within the German Human Genome Project (DHGP). The goal was to characterize a large set of cDNA clones not yet identified in other projects, and to contribute a significant part towards the systematic identification and functional characterization of the genes of the human genome. By 2004, more than 10.000 human full-length cDNAs and 230.000 human ESTs have been collected and stored in public databases. These curated databases may act as an informative collection of various novel mammalian transcripts (see also Pongo pygmaeus cDNA project) and alternative splice variants, providing a valuable resource for your in silico, in vitro and in vivo biological studies.
