We have tried to make interaction in the various views in Genome Workbench as consistent as possible. We have also tried to make sure that the types of interactions are customized and reasonable for each platform we support. The table below lists the actions that are available from the keyboard and mouse in the various graphical and alignment views.

| Left Click | Select. A Left Click will select the object under the cursor. |
| Control-Left Click | Add to selection. Holding down the control key while clicking will add additional items to your selection. |
| Right Click (MacOS: Control-Click) | Context menu. The Context menu will hold commands relevant for your current view or selection, and is the first place to look for a quick function. |
| 'Z' key + left mouse drag | Interactive Zoom Slider. Holding down the 'Z' key while dragging the mouse up and down will zoom a graphical or alignment view in and out. A slider glyph will be drawn on the screen. |
| 'R' key + left mouse drag | Interactive Range/Region Zoom. Holding down the 'R' key while dragging the mouse over a region will allow you to define a rectangular region highlighted in green. When you release the mouse, the view will zoom to this highlighted region. |
| 'P' key + left mouse drag | Interactive Panning. Holding down the 'P' key while dragging the mouse will allow you to move the view to the left or right or up or down. |
