5. How do I obtain sequence flanking my gene of interest?
Method A: This can be accomplished through the "dl" link on the annotated
gene in the Genes_seq map in Map Viewer. You will need the coordinates
for the exon, which can be determined by zooming into the graphical
representation of the gene until the exact base pair coordinates are
visible. You can then click on the "dl" link, enter those coordinates
into the "to" and "from" boxes, and then adjust by 2K upstream of the
exon. Finally, choose Save To Disk to download the sequence and save it
to your computer.
Method B: Find the gene in Entrez Gene and generate its “Gene Table" view using the "Display" pull down. In the exon table, click on the coordinate range of the desired exon and adjust the coordinates given in the resulting Entrez Nucleotide display to include the additional 5' or 3' sequence. Then press "Display" to display the full sequence.
