To find EST's which are expressed in certain tissues, you can perform a search in either Entrez UniGene or Entrez Nucleotide. As an example, let's say that we want to find all of the EST's which are expressed in the kidney.
From Entrez UniGene, enter
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=unigene&cmd=search&term=
Mus musculus [organism] AND kidney [tissue]
This query will return a list of the UniGene clusters which contain EST's that are expressed in kidney tissue. Additional information about where this gene is expressed can be found in the the “Gene Expression” section of the UniGene report.
From Entrez Nucleotide, enter
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=search&DB=nucleotide
Mus musculus [organism] AND gbdiv EST [properties] AND kidney [text word]
This query will return a list of accession numbers for EST's that have been isolated exclusively from kidney or from pooled samples (since we have limited our search by “text word”).
