Updates

Every two to three years, authors are asked to work with the GeneReviews editorial staff in carrying out a systematic update of their Review to ensure its currency.

Editorial staff responsibilities

  • Survey labs to confirm molecular genetic test availability, test methods, and mutation detection rate
  • Edit to conform to the current GeneReviews style and format
  • Review Resources section for accuracy

Author responsibilities

  • Evaluate the Review for currency and accuracy
  • Respond to queries posed by the editorial staff
  • Add relevant new information and citations
  • Identify relevant published statements and guidelines
  • Obtain permission to use any copyrighted material (e.g., diagrams, photographs, illustrations, tables) and discuss with GeneReviews staff any incidental fees
  • Fax signed consent forms for "recognizable" photos
  • Delete outdated references

Revisions

Staff initiated. The GeneReviews editorial staff initiates revisions in a Review whenever a clinically relevant change in information is brought to the attention of the staff. Examples of triggers for a revision:

  • Identification of causative mutations in a gene
  • Changes in availability or methods of testing
  • Advances in treatment

The author reviews proposed revisions before public posting.

Author initiated. Authors initiate revisions as they deem them appropriate.
