Single-voxel 7T 1H MR Collected from Soleus Muscle

These spectra were acquired from a 40 year old woman with BMI 23 kg/m2 before (a) and after (b) 5 minutes of calf-raise exercise. The acetylcarnitine signal from the trimethylamine group (AcCtn) at 3.17 ppm was clearly resolved from the signal from carnitine (Ctn) at 3.20 ppm in the post exercise spectra. The appearance of the acetylcarnitine signal at 3.17 ppm correlated with the appearance of the resonance at 2.12 ppm assigned to the methyl group of acetylcarnitine. The 1H MRS was acquired with STEAM sequence using TR = 2 s, TE = 140 ms and scans in 2.1 min from a voxel (20 × 23 × 34 mm3) centered in soleus as indicated in the T2w image.
