[Gene-announce] ASN directory renamed on the Entrez Gene ftp site

All,
   We have used this distribution list to inform our users that Entrez Gene
is not going to maintain data extractions in multiple ASN.1 formats. All
files are in binary ASN, and tools have been provided to facilitate
conversion and extraction.

   We last updated information in the previous ASN directory August 2, 2005,
and now update files only in the ASN_BINARY directory.

   Because we retained the ASN directory structure, many did not notice that
the data were not being refreshed.  

   We therefore renamed ASN as ASN_OLD, to make the change more obvious.

   The ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/README file has been updated as well.

We regret any confusion this has caused.
