The duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is a primitive egg-laying mammal that is used in research of molecular evolution, developmental biology, neurology, and comparative physiology. The platypus genome opens a window onto the genetic divergence that has occurred between mammals and their reptilian relatives.

NCBI's annotation of the duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) genome, Oan1.1, is now available in Map Viewer! You can browse the genome, search based on gene symbols or names, or BLAST against the genome assembly. The annotation is on the March 2007 platypus 6X assembly, Ornithorhynchus_anatinus-5.0.1, generated by the Washington University Genome Sequencing Center. The assembly sequences are available in GenBank, EMBL, and DDBJ, and by BLAST.
