Welcome to the Taeniopygia guttata Genome Resources page. This homepage provides information on zebra finch-
and avian-related resources from NCBI and the zebra finch research community. If you have questions about any of the resources or have a resource to add please let us know.
We encourage your suggestions.

The zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata), a small songbird native to Australia and islands in the South Pacific, has a long history in aviculture. Zebra finches are sexually dimorphic, with the sexes exhibiting differences in behavior and appearance. This bird with a 'singing genome' serves as a model for research into the role genes play in brain development, learning, and behavior.

Release of chicken build 2.1 in Map Viewer: This build represents an improvement to the initial 6.6X chicken assembly. Map displays include alignment of zebra finch UniGene clusters and mRNAs as well as mRNAs from avian species other than chicken and zebra finch. A link to the FTP site for the chicken Map Viewer files is also provided on this page.
