The honey bee genome, sequenced and assembled by Baylor College of Medicine with funding from the National Human Genome Research Institute, is complete and resources and publications have increased at a rapid rate. Sequence, assembly, annotation and analysis generated by the Honey Bee Genome Sequencing Consortium has culminated in the release of the official publication for the honey bee genome, now available in the journal Nature. Additional links to Nature, special issues of journals containing companion papers and related resources are listed at our special Genome Publication and Press Portal, so be sure to visit.

Latest Buzz...

Map Viewer Update: NCBI's Map Viewer genome search and display tool has been updated with honey bee genome assembly Amel_4.0. Browse the linkage groups to view the Official Gene Set and annotation based on Gnomon gene prediction.

BeeBase Updates: Superscaffolding efforts for Amel_3.0 and Amel_4.0 are available for display at BeeBase, which also hosts a PSI-BLAST site to assist in the identification of diverged gene family members. Learn more about PSI-BLAST here.

New Genome Assembly!: In March 2006, Baylor College of Medicine released the final version of the honey bee genome assembly, Amel_4.0, which is available for viewing in Map Viewer. The new assembly was created by using an improved genetic map to make the best placement of genome sequence on linkage groups.

MAP VIEWER UPDATE: Announcing the update to the honey bee genome assembly version 4 in Map Viewer at NCBI. Map Viewer supports search and display of genomic information by chromosomal position, with a new feature that supports accessing both the current (Amel_4.0) and previous (Amel_2.0) honey bee genome builds. View the Official Gene Set, based on gene prediction and manual annotation by various research groups in the Honey Bee Genome Sequencing Consortium.
