Summary
This gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor that binds neuropeptides of the corticotropin releasing hormone family that are major regulators of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal pathway. The encoded protein is essential for the activation of signal transduction pathways that regulate diverse physiological processes including stress, reproduction, immune response and obesity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, one of which represents a read-through transcript with the neighboring gene MGC57346. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

    Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (5) is a read-through transcript of MGC57346 (GeneID: 401884) and CRHR1 (GeneID: 1394). This variant (5) contains alternate 5' exons and lacks a portion of the coding region, compared to variant 1. These differences cause translation initiation at a downstream AUG and result in an isoform (5) with a shorter N-terminus, compared to isoform 1.
