    Summary
This gene encodes a subunit of RNA polymerase II, a protein complex that is responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes. The encoded protein functions as a component of a specific form of RNA polymerase II termed Pol II(G). This protein may act as a negative regulator of activator-dependent transcription. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Read-through transcription also exists between this gene and the neighboring upstream gene MYZAP (myocardial zonula adherens protein). NCBI Reference Sequences (RefSeq)

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

      Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (3), also called Gdown4, uses an alternate splice site in the 5' coding region, compared to variant 1, that results in a frameshift. This variant is represented as non-coding because the use of either the first or most supported translation start codon renders the transcript a candidate for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD).
