Information for publishers, authors and editors

Authors, editors, and publishers interested in the NCBI books project should contact bookshelf@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov to discuss potential books.

We require the content of the book to be supplied preferably in SGML, although files in common desktop publishing formats, for example, PageMaker or Quark Express, will be considered.

The book text files are converted into XML according to the NCBI Book Document Type Definition (DTD), a public domain DTD developed at NCBI for this project. Graphics files are converted from the format supplied into .gif and .jpg format, as appropriate.

We work with publishers and authors to create the desired HTML templates for the pages, so that where possible they complement the hard copy and meet the needs of the publishers' marketing strategy.

In order for us to integrate the book content with PubMed through concepts and phrases, we require that the book content resides in our database. Should you wish to retain the content on your site, then LinkOut may be a more appropriate option to follow.
