Nramp1 and Nramp2 complement yeast SMF null mutants. Growth of smf3Δ and smf1,2,3Δ mutant expressing Nramp1 or Nramp2 on YPD pH 6 with or without EGTA or on YPD buffered to pH 7.5. As can be seen Nramp2 could complement both the EGTA and the pH 7.5 sensitivity of the smf1,2,37Δ whereas Nramp1 could only suppress the pH 7.5 sensitivity of smf1,2,3Δ. Under these conditions the smf3Δ mutant grows like wild type cells.
