Michel Félétou is a senior scientist in charge of Prospection and Opportunities in the Cardiovascular Research Unit of the Institut de Recherches Servier (IdRS, Paris, France). After obtaining his Ph.D. in the Physiology Department of the University of Poitiers (France) in 1984, he took up a post-doctoral position in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics of the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA) in the laboratory of Professor P.M. Vanhoutte, where he initiated the research on EDHF-mediated responses. He then returned to France to join the IdRS in 1987 where he became Project Leader in the Department of Diabetes and later in the Department of Angiology. His principal research interest has been and still is the understanding of the role of the endothelial cells in the control of vascular tone. Dr Félétou is a current or past member of the Editorial Board of various international journals (Br. J. Pharmacol., Basic Clin. Pharmacol. Toxicol., J. Cardiovasc. Pharmacol., Vascular Pharmacol.) and is a member of a number of scientific associations, among them the American and French Physiological Societies and the American, British, and French Pharmacological Societies.
