ANNEX 13Summary of declarations of interest

Pam Bachanas declared working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that has an interest in promoting HIV testing and counselling for couples from a public health perspective. Pam Bachanas also declared having no commercial or monetary interest in promoting the topic. Helen Jackson declared that UNAIDS covered the costs to participate in the WHO consultation on HIV Testing and Counselling for Couples, 9-11 February 2011, Harare. Tekeste Kebede declared that the CDC, Ethiopia covered the costs to participate in the WHO consultation on HIV Testing and Counselling for Couples, 9-11 February 2011, Harare. Bella Siangonya declared that Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group covered the costs to participate in the WHO consultation on HIV Testing and Counselling for Couples, 9-11 February 2011, Harare. Susan Allen declared conducting research which focuses on the evaluation of couples testing as an HIV prevention strategy and several funders of the research have awarded grants to her employer, Emory University. Susan Allen also declared that other than salary she receives no additional benefits for this work. Additionally Susan Allen declared that CDC, NIH and International AIDS Vaccine Initiative funding of her work supports the advocacy, technical assistance training and research on couples HIV testing. Nelly Mugo declared being an employee of the University of Washington, International Clinical Research Center who are the study grantee for the Partners PrEP study of which Dr Mugo is the principal investigator and that she has received research support from CDC Kenya to the amount of US$3000 to develop guidelines on HIV discordant couples support in Kenya. Elizabeth Marum declared that she is an employee of CDC and that CDC funded her participation in the WHO consultation on HIV Testing and Counselling for Couples, 9-11 February 2011, Harare and have paid for her to travel elsewhere to give presentations on this topic. The WHO steering group and guidelines group discussed all declared potential conflict of interests and concluded that there were no conflicts of interest. Declarations of interest forms were also collected from all non-WHO peer reviewers.

All forms have been saved electronically to the shared drive of the Department of HIV/AIDS.
