Beggiatoa sp. SS. Beggiatoa spp. filaments were obtained in sediments at a depth of 4 meters in the harbor of Eckernford, Germany on the Baltic Sea. A single filament 1 cm. long and 30 microns in diameter was cleaned by gliding through agar, followed by DNA extration.
