The Drosophila elegans genome was sequenced as part of the Drosophila modENCODE comparative genome sequencing project (http://www.genome.gov/Pages/Research/Sequencing/SeqProposals/modENCODE_ComparativeGenomics_WhitePaper.pdf).
 DNA was provided by Artyom Kopp and Michael Eisen. We generated 15X coverage using 454 XLR technology, with ... an additional 30X clone coverage in 3kb and 8kb insert pe sequencing all generated on the 454 platform.
 We assembled the genome using the Celera assembler (Science 287:2196-2204). Small and redundant contigs were omitted from the assembly.
 Funding was provided by the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health (NHGRI).  more
