This version of the project (01) has the accession number AAFX01000000, and consists of sequences AAFX01000001-AAFX01139340.
Surface soil (0-10 cm) was collected in September 2001 from a farm in Waseca County, Minnesota. Biochemical analysis on 20 g of soil from the same site revealed it to be clay loam, with fair to low organic matter content and high levels of most essential elements. Potassium was present at 926.15 mg/kg dry weight and sodium at 75.38 mg/kg; levels of most nonessential elements were low. Microscopic analysis, including Sybr green staining, found the organisms in the sample to be primarily prokaryotic. PCR-amplified 16S rRNA sequences from the sample revealed the presence of numerous bacterial and archaeal lineages. URL -- http://www.jgi.doe.gov Contact: Susannah Tringe SGT@lbl.gov.
