Second (C-terminal) BRCT domain in p53-binding protein 1 (p53BP1) and similar proteins
p53BP1, also termed 53BP1, or TP53-binding protein 1 (TP53BP1) , is a double-strand break (DSB) repair protein involved in response to DNA damage, telomere dynamics, and class-switch recombination (CSR) during antibody genesis. TP53BP1 contains two tandem BRCT repeats. This family corresponds to the second BRCT domain.
Feature 1:peptide binding site [polypeptide binding site]

Structure:5ECG: Homo sapiens 53bp1 binds H2AX-pSer139 (gammaH2AX) peptide, contacts at 4A. - View structure with Cn3D
Comment: the interaction of 53BP1 with gammaH2AX is required for sustaining the 53BP1-dependent focal concentration of activated ATM that facilitates repair of DNA double-strand breaks in heterochromatin in G1
