The ICTVdB contains description of virus families, genera and type species at this stage of development. In future all viruses listed in the Reports of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses will be fully described including strains and isolates. The descriptions are natural language translations of data in DELTA-format that are stored in the ICTVdB, a universal virus database.
