| Accessing the Database |
The ICTVdB is similar to a library catalog, which can be accessed many different
ways. For first-time users only one method of accessing the database will be documented in the
examples. Starting at the Home page, information within the ICTVdB is divided into two
sections:
- Classification and Nomenclature of Viruses
are accessed by clicking on the
Index of Viruses (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ICTVdb/Ictv/) link.
|
- Virus Descriptions are accessed by clicking on the
Descriptions
(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ICTVdb/ICTVdB/) link.
|
It is recommended that first-time users access the database using the following procedures
to learn the nomenclature and family structure of viruses.
Note: Some steps are repeated in each procedure and can be eliminated once
you are familiar with navigating the database.
