Catalogue of Viruses

Catalogue of Viruses The Catalogue of Viruses link in the Index of Viruses frame allows you to access virus information in the following manner:
  • alphabetical lists
  • isolate names (under construction)
  • virus acronyms (under construction)
  • unassigned viruses
  • genome sequences
Alphabetical List Follow the steps in the table below to use the Alphabetical List in the Catalogue of Viruses.

Click on the Catalogue of Viruses link in the Index of Viruses frame and the Catalogue of Viruses frame appears.

Click on the alphabetical lists link in the Catalogue of Viruses frame and the Virus Names--alphabetical order frame appears.

  • Click S in the alphabetical order list.
  • Scroll down to Saguaro cactus virus (SgCV) and click on the Tombusviridae link.
Result: The taxonomic structure for the Family and Genus appears.

Unassigned Viruses Follow the steps in the table below to find the Unassigned Viruses in the Catalogue of Viruses.

Click on the Catalogue of Viruses link in the Index of Viruses frame and the Catalogue of Viruses frame appears.

Click on the unassigned viruses link in the Catalogue of Viruses frame.

Result: The Index to the Unassigned Viruses appears. These viruses have not yet been assigned to a recognized genus. Scroll to sections of the frame to view examples of unassigned Animal, Plant, Fungus, and Invertebrate viruses.

Genome Sequences Follow the steps in the table below to use the Genome Sequences feature in the Catalogue of Viruses.

Result: The external database maintained by NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) appears. Specific instructions on how to access the NCBI database are not included in this ICTVdB tutorial. Use the Information and Tools links of the NCBI database to learn how to search for genome sequences.
