Virion Properties

Morphology

Virions consist of an envelope and a nucleocapsid. Virus capsid is enveloped. Virions are spherical and measure 40-50 nm in diameter. Surface projections are small spikes. Capsid/nucleocapsid is round and exhibits polyhedral symmetry. The nucleocapsid is isometricand has a diameter of 25-30 nm.

Nucleic Acid

The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear positive-sense, single-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 10857 nucleotides long. Sequence can be accessed from GenBank; the RNA is fully sequenced, complete sequence is 10857 nucleotides long and encodes polyprotein. Sequence has the accession number [AB114858]; [AF013414]. The 5'-end of the genome has a methylated nucleotide cap. The 3'-terminus has no poly (A) tract.
