Virions consist of a capsid. Virus capsid is not enveloped. Capsid/nucleocapsid is elongated with helical symmetry. The capsid is filamentous, flexuous.

Virus is transmitted in a semi-persistent manner; lost by the vector when it moults; not transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the vector.

Experimental Hosts and Symptoms

Susceptible host species are found in the Family Chenopodiaceae, Compositae. The following species were susceptible to experimental virus infection: Beta vulgaris, Lactuca sativa, Sonchus oleraceus.

Histopathology: Virus can be best detected in roots.

Geographical Distribution

The virus is found, but with no evidence of proliferation, in the U.K. in Scotland.
