Classification

This is a description of a fungal virus at the family level.

ICTVdB Virus Code: 00.008. Virus accession number: 00008FAM. Obsolete virus code: 08.; superceded accession number: 08000000.
NCBI Taxon Identifier NCBI Taxonomy ID: 39741.

Virion Properties

Morphology

Virions consist of a capsid. Virus capsid is not enveloped. Capsid is elongated and exhibits icosahedral symmetry (T=1) (assumed, because optical diffraction patterns resemble those of Alfalfa mosaic virus). The capsid is bacilliform. Each capsomer measures 10 nm in diameter. Surface projections are not present. The capsid is bacilliform with a length with a length of 48-53 nm and a width of 18-20 nm.

Physicochemical and Physical Properties

Virions have a buoyant density in sucrose of 1.32 g cm-3. Under in vitro conditions virions are stable in acid environment of pH 6-7; stable in alkaline environment of pH 7-8. Virions are stable. Virions are sensitive to treatment with chloroform.

Nucleic Acid

The Mr of the genome constitutes about 20% of the virion by weight. The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear positive-sense, single-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 4400 nucleotides long. Genome is sequenced, but only an estimate is available, complete sequence is 4000 nucleotides long. The genome has a guanine + cytosine content of 46.3 %. Each virion contains a longer than full length copy.

GenBank records for nucleotide sequences; complete genome sequences.

Proteins

Particles are made up of 7 proteins.

The viral genome encodes structural proteins. Virions consist of 1 structural protein(s) located in the capsid.

Structural Proteins: Capsid protein (CP), a single major protein. Capsid protein has a molecular mass of 24400 Da with 240 copies per virion.

Lipids

Lipids are not reported.
