Post-translational modification prediction

Many programs exist for, e.g.,
  • Prediction of protein sorting signals and subcellular localization sites.
  • Prediction of targeting sequences.
  • Prediction of type O-glycosylation sites.
  • Prediction of GPI-anchor and cleavage sites.
  • Prediction of Ser, Thr and Tyr phosphorylation sites.
  • Prediction of protease cleavage sites in picornaviral proteins.
Located on the ExPASY server is:
  • The Sulfinator - Predicts tyrosine sulfation sites in protein sequences.
    • Tyrosine sulfation is an important post-translational modification of proteins that go through the secretory pathway.
    Search options are:
    • Search by SWISS-PROT protein identifiers (ID).
    • Search by SWISS-PROT/TrEMBL accession numbers (AC).
    • Or insert sequences in FASTA format.

Example: Using the Sulfinator to detect tyrosine sulfation sites for SWISS_PROT Accn.no P35523.
    • Enter the Accession no into the query box and hit Submit.
