Cn3D ("See in 3-D") Viewing Software

Before we can view a 3-D structure from the structure summary page, we need to install a structure viewing software program. A variety of public domain programs exist, such as:
  • Cn3D ("See in 3-D")
  • Rasmol
Additional public domain and commercial programs also exist (examples).

We will focus on Cn3D, which was developed at NCBI and is the default viewer for MMDB structure data in Entrez. It uses data in ASN.1 format. MMDB records can also be saved in the PDB format, which is can be used by Rasmol.
