When to search Entrez Genomes vs. Entrez Nucleotides?

when users want:

  • whole organism or chromosome
    • to see the big picture of an organism
    • to search for a term across the complete genome and graphically see where the hits lie within the genome

  • chromosome region
    • to see the features in a specific region of a genome (e.g., from point A to point B, or within chromosome band n)

  • bird's eye view of a gene
    • to know where a gene is
    • to view/download the genomic DNA sequence for a gene
    • to view/download sequence upstream or downstream from gene
    • to see the exon/intron structure of the gene
    • to know which genes flank their gene of interest (i.e., lie upstream and downstream)
