Viewing the genomic context of the human MLH1 gene for colon cancer

We will use MLH1 to continue our demonstration of NCBI's Map Viewer, focusing on:

  • how to use the tool
  • what types of things you can see and do with it
  • various types of display options
  • overview of various types of maps that are available for an individual chromosome (more detail on this in the following slides, after the demo)

One sample user question that can be answered with the Map Viewer is below.

Although I have the transcript (mRNA) for the MLH1 gene, I would also like to obtain the genomic sequence data, along with some upstream data. How can I do this?

    Answer

The Map Viewer help document provides additional examples of questions that can be answered with the Map Viewer (for your reference only -- due to the time contraints of the course, we will not be able to cover these individually).
