How Can the Different Maps be Used?

  • to compare consistencies and inconsistencies between maps

  • to see the location of a particular map object on several different maps (cytogenetic, genetic linkage, sequence)

  • To convert (approximately) the location of gene from one scale to another, for example:
    • I know the MLH1 gene is on cytogenetic band 3p21.3. What is its location on the Genethon genetic map (in centiMorgans)?
