BLAST Program Selection Guide helps you to select the program that best meets your needs. The statistical parameters have already been modified in many of those programs, to optimize the search results for that type of BLAST search.

When you open one of those programs, such as the Nucleotide BLAST search for short, nearly exact matches, note how the statistical parameters differ from the defaults given in a standard blastn search.
