There are openings in the NIH Intramural Program of the National Center for Biotechnology Information for researchers interested in the development of algorithms for the discovery and display of information in large textual databases. Applicants must have training with a strong emphasis on computation and either familiarity with statistical methods in data mining or an interest to learn the necessary techniques. The successful applicant will apply natural language processing, statistical, and machine learning methods to the problem of mining biological and medical literature with the aim of developing new methods to improve access to the literature in these fields. Applicants must have a PhD (e.g., computer science, physics, applied mathematics, statistics, biomedical engineering) or MD degree or equivalent. Applicants do not need to be US citizens. Stipends start at a minimum of $58,000 per year and can be higher depending on qualifications.
