Yuri I. Wolf Theory predicts a high importance of translation initiation efficiency (TIE) for highly expressed proteins. To test this prediction we develop a celluar automaton model of ribosome and estimate TIE for a genome-scale set of human and mouse mRNA. We find that TIE values are moderately conserved between orthologous genese in human and mouse but only weakly correlate with gene expression level and evolution rate.
